It does allow highly skilled GURPS characters to absorb more penalties, but it also allows them to emulate more of the novels and stories than the stock board game does. MonkeyFist and I have played with that and discovered it’s very well balanced, even when using a mix of BattleTech and GURPS. Congratulations, it’s really that simple. Invert the modifier symbol (in BattleTech a “+” is a bad thing and a “–“ is a good thing) and apply that as a bonus or penalty.

Sure, they’re a professional soldier, but an average MechWarrior is a reach above a normal professional soldier. Personally, I recommend using BattleTech rules for ‘Mech on ‘Mech combat, and converting non- BattleTech vehicles into BattleTech (using my previous post) for combat.īasically, BattleTech converts to GURPS as long as you understand that a 12 in GURPS is a Green’s skill in BattleTech. It’s also possible for a ‘Mech to be destroyed by taking as little as one point of Center Torso damage (rolling that 12 on a critical hit and taking out the engine, for example).

The reason ‘Mechs can take their full Internal Structure Center Torso value as cHP is that ‘Mechs are at 100% combat readiness, even with 1 point of Internal Structure remaining to their Center Torso. Damage to their limbs doesn’t affect their cHP value. However, they can take scads of damage to other parts and be, fundamentally, sound. So, fundamentally, ‘Mechs have a cHP equal their Center Torso value. To destroy a 20-ton ‘Mech, it takes 600 points of damage (they have a Center Torso Internal Structure value of 6).
On the other hand, ‘Mechs can take an insane amount of damage compared to their mass. Normally, a 20-ton object would have an ST of 137, but ‘Mechs are a little weak. It just can’t be.Ī 20-ton ‘Mech as an ST of 100 (‘Mechs can lift 10% their weight using both hands, so, a 20-ton ‘Mech can carry 2 tons, in both hands). Interactions of this type follow normal GURPS rules.

Unless the GM decides otherwise, no other weapons are. This is not, however, a Century-Scaled BattleTech Weapon.īasically, a weapon is either a Century-Scaled BattleTech weapon, or it isn’t.Īll ‘Mech weapons from the Classic BattleTech rule books are Century-Scaled BattleTech weapons. For BattleTech compliance sake that rounds down to 6 points to be a “Medium” rifle. A D-81TM Rapira (125x408mmR) firing APFSDSDU does 693 points of damage on average ( GURPS High Tech, pg 141). It’s pretty basic: BattleMechs are Century-Scale vehicles.Ģ0th Century tank guns are “Rifles” from Tactical Operations (pg 338).
